Department Infrastructure

The department has total 99 bed strength out of which 67 are general ward beds and 16 ICU beds. There is a state of the art 6 bedded epilepsy monitoring unit with facilities for long term VEEG monitoring and 4 beds for post-epilepsy surgery care. There is a 24 hour neurology emergency with 6 fully equipped beds. There is a dedicated neuro-electrophysiology laboratory where EEG and Nerve conduction studies/ Electromyography procedures are done daily. There are fully functional physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy departments where rehabilitative services are provided to the patients daily. The Department shall soon start a 12 bedded stroke unit wherepatients of acute stroke shall get specialized care. 

Facilities available

The department provides outpatient and inpatient services including ICU care in various neurological conditions including stroke, epilepsy, headache, movement disorders (e.g. Parkinson disease) , nerve muscle diseases, demyelinating diseases (e.g. Multiple Sclerosis), CNS infections, cognitive problems in both adult and paediatric population. 24 hour Neuro-ICU has ultra-modern state of the art facilities for patient monitoring. There is facility for plasmapheresis also. Diagnostic facilities like EEG, nerve conduction studies, Electromyography, evoked potential studies, repetitive nerve studies and polysomnography are available.

The department also runs extensive rehabilitation facilities in the form of physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy. Physiotherapy has a Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulator, Endo Laser, Short Wave Diathermy and Dynamic stair trainer. Occupational therapy has been upgraded with Functional electrical stimulator with Bio-feedback, Balance Master and Manual Muscle Testing.

The department also provides 24 hour emergency services to patients with acute neurological problems including thrombolysis in acute stroke.

The department also runs comprehensive epilepsy care program that includes long-term VEEG monitoring and various types of epilepsy surgeries are being done at the centre on regular basis.

Academic activities:

1. The Department provides training in post-doctoral degree (DM neurology) to six students every year. In addition, the department offers post-doctoral fellowship in epilepsy to two candidates per year.

2. The department also participates in the teaching activities of the postgraduates, MD students (Medicine and Psychiatry) and M Phil students from University of Delhi.

3. The department also provides training to BOT, MOT, BPT, MPT and interns in occupational therapy and physiotherapy from various institutions in Delhi including Institute of Physically Handicapped. In addition two DCNT students are imparted training in neurophysiology per year.

4. The department is also active in research activities and publishes in both national and international journals of repute.

5. Numerous National and International CMEs, Updates, Symposia and Conferences are being organized by the department from time to time.
