Departmental profile:
The department of Cardio thoracic and Vascular Surgery was started in the year 1964. Facilities of open-heart procedures were added in 1971.M Ch course was started in 1976 under affiliation of Delhi University.
This department is distinguished for providing free of cost open heart surgeries. This is the only government setup in India to provide free bed, meals, disposables, costly antibiotics and all other services. This department offers complete range of surgical procedures for all type of cardiac ailments i.e. from neonatal to adult. This department is equipped with most modern equipment of international standards to perform complicated major vascular and cardiac procedures.

 


OPD: The department has daily morning OPD from 8 AM to 2 PM. Registration timing for new patients is upto 11AM and for Old patients is upto 12 Noon.

Department Infrastructure and location:
Beds: The department has 96 general ward beds of which 32 beds are marked for intensive care
Wards: Ward 27 & 30, 7th floor, B-Block and Ward-21 at 2nd floor, B-Block ( Master Amir Chand Block), GIPMER, New Delhi.
OT: 2nd & 5th Floor, B-Block (Master Amir Chand Block), GIPMER, New Delhi.
ICU: 29 at 5th Floor and 22 at 2nd floor, B-Block (Master Amir Chand Block), GIPMER, New Delhi

Guidelines for OPD patients:

Cardiothoracic:

  • Bring patient along with all original test reports and previous prescriptions.
  • Ensure correct name and address in OPD slip. To avoid spelling mistake, write name, father/husband’s name, age & address in bold letters on a slip and hand it to data entry operators at counter or produce Aadhar Card.
  • Ensure reaching before 8.00 AM to avoid rush.
  • Patients requiring blood & PT test must reach before 8 AM.
  • Now children below (12 years) shall be seen on TUESDAY/THURSDAY/SATURDAY in the following manner:-

Academic activities:

  • Daily morning classes & seminars for post graduates
  • Six post doctors (M.Ch) training seats in Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery.
  • This department is also conducting examination for National Board of Examination.
  • The department actively participates in National, International and State level conferences by presenting scientific papers and delivering CME lectures

Patient Awareness Programme:

  • Public awareness lecture are held on World Heart Day every year.
  • Orations are held in the department.

Future plans:

  • To add two more operation theatre complex at 5th floor of Master Amir Chand Block.
  • To start hybrid operation theatre complex for endovascular procedures and dedicated Neonatal/Paediatric intensive care facility at 7th floor of Master Amir Chand Block.
  • To enhance the bed strength of ICU from 32 to 50 beds.
  • To start B Sc in perfusion technology course.
  • To start patient attendant waiting area at 7th floor of Master Amir Chand Block.
