DEPARTMENTAL PROFILE

  • The Department of Dietetics at G.B. Pant Hospital, New Delhi was established in 1964 to provide diet to all admitted patients. Beginning with only 229 beds including one private ward it has now been extended to more than 700 beds. This includes 110 Nursing Home rooms in 6 Wards & 11 ICUs & Other General Wards.
  • Diet is provided to all admitted patients on all 365 days whether in General Ward or Nursing Home rooms.
  • Dietary Department includes two kitchens at present, one in ‘A’ block & one in ‘D’ block which works from 6.00 AM to 7.30 PM in two shifts under the Supervision of Dieticians

Clinical Facilities

  • OPD Counseling:- Diet Counseling is given to the patients who are referred from various OPDs. Personalized diet chart are prescribed on the basis of their medical condition, food habits, work schedule ensuring the meal plan prescribed is practical, affordable and easy to follow,

OPD days & timings :-

Monday to Friday: 10.00 AM to 12.30 PM & 2.00 PM to 3.00 PM.

Saturday : 10.00 AM to 12.30

 

  • IPD Counseling:- Diet referrals are being sent for the admitted patients by their concerned doctors and bed side diet counseling is given to them accordingly. 

 

  • Ward Rounds:- Dieticians takes rounds in all Nursing Home on all working days and in Gastro Surgery wards, ICU 16 and General ICU on specific days for all the admitted patients.

Nutritional assessment & reassessment is done for these patients.

 

  • Nutritional Supplement:- It is given to the admitted patients in General Ward who are being prescribed by their concerned doctor. Requisition for the supplement duly signed by the doctor & sister Incharge is being sent from various wards on particular days, according to which it is issued to the patients.

 

Diet Facilities

  • Diet indents in the form of Diet sheets are received from wards in the morning daily according to which Diet is compiled & distribution sheets are prepared by the dieticians. Accordingly the food is cooked as per the diet scale and cooked food is issued from the kitchen. Timely supplementary are also received for any new admissions or any change in diet.

 

  • General Ward:- Three main meals with Bed tea and Evening tea being provided to the admitted patients in various wards which includes Breakfast, Lunch Evening Tea and Dinner. Distribution of food to the patients is done by Ward NOs.

 

  • Special Ward:- Room service is being provided for all the meals by the kitchen staff to patients admitted in nursing homes i.e. Bed tea with biscuits, Breakfast, Mid Morning soup, Lunch, Evening Tea snacks, Evening Soup & Dinner.

 

  • To ensure timely supply of meals in most hygienic conditions, Kitchen staff works in two shifts i.e. from 6:00AM to 7:30 PM.(6:00 A.M TO 1:00 P.M AND 12:30 P.M TO 7:30 P.M)

 

  • Assistant Dieticians Works in general shift i.e. 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Evening Shift 10:30 AM to 5:30 PM and Sundays 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM

 

Dieticians themselves supervise every step, from procurement to distribution to ensure best quality of food is being given to patients.

Millets are also being introduced to the patients in the form of Bajra Khichri, Samak Khichri.

Channa Sattu is introduced to meet up the protein requirement of the patients.

Feedback forms are being filled by the admitted patients and the steps are being taken regularly to enhance the palatability of food

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED

  • Referral from concern doctor for diet counseling.
  • Duly signed diet sheet from each ward to provide diet.
  • Duly signed requisition form for nutritional supplement from General Wards on particular days.

 

REQUIRED FEE

  • Diet is free for all the patients admitted in General Ward.
  • Diet is charged for patients admitted in Nursing Home as per the hospital policy
  • Diet counseling is free of cost for all the patients whether OPD or IPD

 

ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES

  • The department imparts dietetic training to post graduate students.
  • The department provides diet counseling to the patients in prosthodontics OPD in  MAIDS.
  • The department participates in scientific session organized by Delhi Dietetic Association
  • The dieticians are also a part of various thesis/Projects related to Nutrition.
